Amsterdam nightlife is not for the faint hearted. To give
you an idea, there are 14,600 concerts/theatrical performances a year,
55 concert halls, 1,402 cafés and bars as well as 36 clubs. There
is so much on offer here, from a myriad of concerts to a great selection
of bars and clubs, you won't be bored. The dress code is smart and the
bouncers can be quite particular about who they let in, so be warned!

Most bars, clubs and discothèque are located around Leidseplein (which has a young crowd), Jordaan and Rempbrendtplein (very trendy nightspots). Here are some of the clubs you will find: Club More (very cool Club with a-list Dutch celebrities and clubbers), The Mazzo ( techno/house music), Soul Kitchen (soul and r&b music) and Escape (largest club in Amsterdam). Warmoestraat and the streets around it combine to form the Red Light District while the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal are offers clubs with a more lounge, chilled out atmosphere.
Holland is renowned for its relaxed and laid back attitude towards marijuana and some other drugs. It is permitted to smoke marijuana in most Dutch clubs although rules can vary from place to place. Harder drugs are not tolerated.

Amsterdam also has a Casino, one of the biggest in Europe and offers everything from French or American roulette to computerized bingo.
