The Amsterdam Historic Museum is one such example, which offers an overview of Amsterdam from the thirteenth century to the present day. There is also the Royal Palace and the Stedelijk Museum (which has a large collection of Modern art). The Netherlands Maritime Museum is a must for those who like all things sea-worthy, being one of the largest Maritime collections in the world.

The Rijksmuseum has the largest collection of art in Holland, with a section on the old Dutch masters such as Vermeer, Jan Steen and Frans Hals as well as Rembrandt and a lot more.
